RECENT ADULT TITLES
This month we have another book donated as part of our “Adopt-An-Author” program. Individuals may select an author they wish to adopt. As new books are written by that author the library purchases the book. If you have adopted that author, you pay the library cost, get to read it first and the book is donated to the library in your name. So far only Robin Cook, Patricia Cornwell and Sue Grafton have been adopted; so call the library at 496-9728 if you want to adopt your favorite author. The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell was donated by Lisa Moreno. Kay Scarpetta is the senior forensic analyst for CNN where she receives some unusual on-air phone calls. The talk show host knows Kay can’t discuss current cases, but the host is more interested in the ratings for her show. A millionaire has disappeared , Kay has lost her cell phone which has confidential information on it and she’s being warned off her current case. Can anything else go wrong?
When Nora Roberts writes as J.D. Robb the main character is always Eve Duncan and the story takes place in the future. Kindred in Death involves the rape and strangulation of the 16 year-old daughter of a captain in the New York Police Department. This will be just the first of several deaths as a young man seeks revenge for his mother’s death which happened some twenty years ago.
Ice by Linda Howard takes place in Maine during a winter ice storm. Gabriel McQueen is home on leave from the service and is looking forward to spending quality time with his seven year-old son. Just as he gets into town his sheriff father asks him to travel up the mountain to make sure Lolly Helton is not stranded by the ice storm. Gabriel remembers their time in high school when he considered Lolly “stuck-up” and he’d rather be anywhere but completing this mission.
It’s during the depression era and single mother Ella Barton runs a boarding house in a small Texas town. In Rainwater by Sandra Brown we see the struggles faced by the farmers selling their stock to the government in an effort to keep their farms. Ella’s son, Solly, is autistic at a time when the condition was unknown to doctors as well as parents. Ella’s new border, David Rainwater, will have a major impact on Solly, Ella and the entire town.
JUVENILE GRAPHIC NOVELS
Our collection of graphic novels is very small although we try to add a few each month. We just received a collection of 35 graphic novels that we borrowed from the Vermont Midstate Regional Library. We will have them at the library for four months; so if you really like the genre stop in and check out a few. It includes three of the Bone series by Jeff Smith, several by DC comics and Marvel comics including Wonder Woman and Batman.
